Frequently Asked Questions Electrolysis

FAQ

  • Electrolysis is a technique for permanent hair removal where an electrical current is transmitted via a small sterile probe into the hair follicle. This destroys the dermal papilla (the blood supply for the follicle) and an area called "the bulge" or hair germ cells, all of which cause hair to grow and regenerate.

    Galvanic

The oldest method, direct current mixes with salt and water in the follicle to create lye. The lye causing a chemical reaction then destroys the dermal papilla.

    Thermolysis

Short wave (radio frequency) alternating current oscillating produces heat causing electrocoagulation to the dermal papilla.

    Blend

Combines Galvanic and Thermolysis for increased causticity, porosity, and agitation.

They are all safe, permanent, and effective.

  • Some areas of the body are more sensitive than others. Individual tolerances vary. A pinching or mild stinging sensation are common. Over the counter numbing cream is available for purchase but not necessary. We can discuss this further at your consultation.

  • Electrolysis is safe and effective for all different areas of the body including reshaping the hairline, eyebrows, top of the nose, cheeks, sideburn area, upper and lower lip, chin, neck, shoulders, back, chest, breasts, abdomen, arms, legs, bikini line, hands, feet, toes and fingers. Hair on moles will only be treated with written approval from a physician. It is perfectly safe to treat pregnant women, excluding the breasts and abdomen. Electrolysis can be performed on all skin types, and hair colors.

  • Hair is best treated between an 1/8 and a 1/4 inch long, just long enough to grasp with tweezers. Typically 3-5 days growth.

  • Treatment plans will vary. Keeping regular appointments to treat each new hair during the growth cycle is most effective. The density and coarseness of hair, the size of the area being treated, and the sensitivity level determines how many treatments are necessary. Previous methods of hair removal can affect the overall treatment time. Do not wax or tweeze between appointments. You may continue shaving up to 3-5 days before appointments as this does not affect electrolysis treatments.
